Prescription Drugs
National Institute on Drugs Abuse has come up with a
study that shows the growing trend for Prescription
Drugs abuse. According to statistics, elder people are
most likely to become addicted to Prescription Drugs.
Young adults also from 12-25 years old are most likely
to become victims of prescription drugs abuse. The
experts have attributed these trends for the false
notion that prescription drugs are better alternatives
for illegal drugs. On one hand, old people used drugs as
called for by their medical conditions. Furthermore,
NIDA discovers that people used medicines with
responsibility and great care. It's just that these
drugs have addicted elements, that frequent use of it
would cause dire consequences like tolerance and
dependency.
According to NIDA, the most commonly Prescription Drugs
abuse are opioids, stimulants, and depressants. These
drugs can also be considered as pain reliever to
physical and emotional problems. Sometimes these drugs
are used for health problems like sleep disorders and
anxiety. Opioids are not really addictive if used for a
few times only. Dependency of the drugs begin as one's
body becomes comfortable with these drugs, like a new
student in the class that has adapted from this new
environment.
Governments and other health organizations are worried
about Prescription Drugs addiction, which is dominantly
affecting the health welfare of the whole country.
Prescription Drugs abuse is becoming rampant and if
there's no counter-action, ten to fifteen years from
now, the number of people addicted to drugs will double.
Even though there are steps that every country has been
doing to ensure that addiction to these drugs is being
prevented, the statistics tell us that these steps are
not efficient enough to combat the addiction. The
statistics is really valuable because it could serve as
the wake-up call for the people to focus their attention
to this growing public health concern. |
